Working On…

Currently this gorgeous wooden puzzle is on my board. It’s slow going; partly because I don’t sit in the puzzle room for long periods of time, and partly because I’ve put the box away and am working without an image.

When working with wooden puzzles I prefer to work without any helpers, it makes it take a little longer and I can enjoy the feel of the pieces and the way they fit together for just a teeny bit more time. It’s nice to only think about the colors and shapes, where this oddly shaped piece might go, and does this section connect here….. I find it easier to be mindful about what I’m doing and one hundred percent engrossed in the puzzling itself.

I’m extremely thankful that we’re in a place where I can afford to get myself some wooden puzzles if I am so inclined, and I don’t take it for granted at all. Honestly, the wooden puzzles I’ve been working with lately have done wonders for my state of mind, they’re almost a therapy substitute – it’s difficult for me to be in a crappy mood when working with them, they take me completely out of my head so I stop thinking too much and they’re just so much fun! ☺

  1. That is wonderful to hear! I think puzzle therapy is a real thing. I have heard so many people who puzzle say they do so because ut helps them with severe depression and / or anxiety and other life stressors. It can help someone heal from the loss of a loved one too. Puzzles are wonderful in so many ways. I am thrilled they have helped you get back your puzzle mojo too!

Oh my goodness! How did you get into my head? You describe EXACTLY how I feel about wooden puzzles! Fitting those clunky funky little wooden shapes and colors together is such a meditative experience for me.

I only do wooden puzzles. I do the same puzzles over and over and over and I have honestly never gotten bored. But I do have them organized by seasons, spring/summer and fall/winter, and one group or the other is always off limits until its season comes around. I guess in that way I’m a little bit like a dog whose toy has been re-introduced after being taken out of circulation for a while.

Occasionally for a special treat or to reward myself for something I’ll add a new wooden puzzle to my collection… but of course visiting your blog also really helps me with my PADS!

    1. I guess we puzzle aficionados all pretty much feel the same way. Whether it’s wooden, plastic, cardboard, or acrylic there’s something about putting together a jigsaw puzzle that centers the mind and you’re just completely in the moment and only focused on the next color or shape. 🧩🧘‍♀️

I just got a delivery of three new wooden ones tonight, I’m SOOOO looking forward to working with them – just as soon as the other three puzzles I have going are finished. LOL
