Lots of good stuff done today. Unbelievably I did the dark blue and edge pieces, even though I usually do that near the end. It was easy and convenient, so there ya go. I finished the pale color in the background above the straw and was able to connect Timothy to it, and even got a large portion of one of Dumbo’s ears finished.
I knew from the picture that Dumbo was a huge part of the image, but seeing the size of just a part of his ear really lets you know just how big he will be. Wow!
This section is different in that I don’t have several different characters to assemble and place approximately where they go. Timothy went first, and the only other character is Dumbo, and he’s HUGE. I don’t normally start at one side and work my way to the other, but it’s looking like that’s mostly how this one is going to go.
Hopefully things keep going as quickly as they have been so far. But the easy stuff is kinda over, so that’s most likely going to slow me down some. Still enjoying myself, and that’s what really matters!
Finally was able to finish sorting and start the actual assembly of the 3rd section, Dumbo. While sorting, it was clear that this puzzle isn’t going to be a cakewalk, although I’m hoping it won’t be as challenging as Cinderella was. The number of grey and pink pieces for Dumbo himself is a bit overwhelming, not to mention the various shades of brown, blue and white. But I’ll get through it like always, and will be extremely proud when it’s finished 🙂
Timothy Q. Mouse is completed already, as his pieces were the easiest to pull out – he’s basically the smallest thing in the puzzle. He is about the size of my hand, so not tiny, but you can see in the picture he is a very small part of the whole image.
I started with the burgundy color in the background behind Dumbo, and as the filmstrip is connected to that I decided to go ahead and do that early in this puzzle. It’s not a corner section so there is only one side that has filmstrip instead of two. Not difficult to work, and actually boosted my piece count for the day so I’m already about 1/8 done! I also put together Dumbo’s eyes and mouth, and the little 4 piece Disney logo. That was where I called it quits for the day.
It doesn’t look overly impressive, but I’m happy with the amount I got done today, especially having had to go out and run errands twice! Hopefully tomorrow will be less hectic and there will be more time to work on the puzzle. Now that I’ve started I’m anxious to make lots of progress!
Cinderella is finished! I’m super proud of myself, and very thankful to my mom and husband for helping put the last pieces in today. Thanks guys! Actually, thanks mom. Hubby never reads this blog. He gets to hear about the puzzle and sees it every day. 🙂
I sure was right when I said that this would be one of the difficult ones. But it took me only 16 days to complete this section compared to 20 days for Snow White. I think I learned a few things working the first section that sped things up a bit, and I also think I worked harder on it because I wanted to get it over with. Not that I didn’t enjoy it, because I did; but at times it seemed as if I was making no progress at all. And again, there were raging hormone days which made slight frustrations seem way worse than they actually were.
She is beautiful and I’m glad she’s finished. The twinklies were the last pieces to be assembled and it seemed more difficult on this section than it did on Snow White. Perhaps that’s just my perception, but it sure did feel as if I spent WAY more time looking for pieces. It is helpful though that there is a pattern to the pieces along the connecting edges. You can see in the picture above that it alternates, this is helpful in determining what shape pieces you’re looking for next.
Tomorrow she’s coming off the board to be put on cardboard to rest under my bed until assembling day. I really should figure out what I’m going to do with the puzzle once it is complete! Buy a bigger house with a wall large enough to display it? Or with enough floor space to put it on the floor and cover it with a clear sealer? If I do that though, I can never ever move! Also, do I really want people walking all over it? I think not!
Dumbo is next, but I’m not sure if I’ll start sorting tomorrow or not. I have pulled the bag of pieces but that’s as far as I got. I am still working on the Civil War Generals puzzle, but I may get antsy to get started on the next section. I do want to finish the Civil War puzzle, because it’s quite fun – interesting and informative. Lots of words too, which I LOVE to put together. Although you may be seeing Dumbo progress start very soon!
A little bit of progress today, just over 300 pieces to go! Either tomorrow or Sunday it should be finished. Most likely tomorrow, because hubby likes to help at the tail end of puzzles. He can swoop in when it’s almost done and help finish it, without having to do any of the hard stuff. That’s ok, I enjoy having someone work on a puzzle with me. It’s nice to talk and help each other find pieces, it makes it seem more fun even though I think puzzles are fun even if it’s just me working them. Sometimes I even let him put the last piece of the puzzle in if I’m feeling generous. That last piece is the best!
I got two whole rows filled in on the left side of the puzzle, and am working on filling in the bottom before the actual twinklies start. Shouldn’t be too much longer now and I’ll be 100% done with Cinderella and 20% done with the entire puzzle. YES!!!
As of right now I’ve decided to do Dumbo next. That may change before I actually have to pull the bag and start sorting, but I doubt it. The adorable little elephant is up next. I may have to be reminded of how adorable he is later on when I’m sick of looking at his face (you know, how you feel about your kids or your spouse when they’re being buttheads) 🙂
Don’t change that dial! Â A complete Cinderella should be up next!
I didn’t work very long on the puzzle today, but got a lot done because it’s so near the end and the pieces seem to go in faster. I’m already deciding what section to do next. I was thinking Dumbo (so cute with Dumbo taking a bath), my husband suggested The Jungle Book (my favorite Disney movie, best songs!) I’ll have to see what mom says tomorrow and see if there’s any agreement or if we have 3 different suggestions. Bambi and Beauty and The Beast look like the easiest ones to me, so I want to save them for the last two.
Finally finished all the dark pieces, dark blue border and edge pieces. Yay me! I put all the remaining pieces on trays separated by shape, and was even able to find those two bleeping pieces I was missing in the middle of the stagecoach. YES!!! I quit early tonight and am laying in bed with my heating pad and my dog. I may even work on my Civil War Generals puzzle if I can’t sleep yet.
Visiting day with mom tomorrow so progress will be minimal. I will try to work some in the morning before I go and in the evening after I get home. Hopefully before the weekend is over this baby will be done and out of my hair. 3557 pieces down and only 475 to go! Perhaps I worked faster on this one because I wanted to get it over with. But even when it was frustrating me I was still kinda enjoying the frustration, because I know once I get to the end and every piece is in it’s proper place that I will be so proud of myself!
