Excellent progress today!

I was planning on trying to finish my secondary puzzle today, but I got caught up in the big one, things started falling into place 🙂 and I didn’t want to halt any forward progress. I decided to start with whatever yellow/ish pieces were left, and then worked on light green and whatever else popped out at me. I have pieces pulled to work on the rest of the green tomorrow. It’s difficult to work on the puzzle for any length of time, as I am unable to sit or stand for more than a few minutes but I’m trying to make the best of it and do what I can. I’m proud of what I got done today!

I wonder how many people have purchased this puzzle worldwide. It would be interesting to find out exactly how many units Ravensburger has sold. I definitely won’t be the first to finish it, but I’m not doing this competitively, it’s for fun and a sense of accomplishment. It will be months and months before I’m done, but I’m looking forward to each section of the puzzle. Even just finishing the first section will be a super accomplishment – it will be twice as many pieces as the largest puzzle I’ve ever done.

I almost feel like I should have the soundtracks to each of the movies and listen to the songs while I work on each section. It would be fun at first but would probably become repetitive very quickly. Not unlike having little children at home and watching the same movie over and over, or listening to the same song over and over again. Ok, now that I actually wrote that down, I’ve talked myself out of it – or at least out of listening to the songs the whole time. Perhaps while I’m in the home stretch and on my last day or so it would be fun to hear all the songs again. There’s a job for one of my boys, finding me the soundtracks to put on my phone or computer. It also makes me want to work on The Jungle Book next, because that’s the best soundtrack in my opinion. It’s the one I remember most from my childhood, we used to listen to the songs on an 8 track tape in our van. Yikes! I’ve totally dated myself with that last sentence 😮

A few of the dwarfs finally got their hands!

It doesn’t look like much today, but I was able to put about 150 pieces in there! I put a tally counter on my phone, and I absolutely love it. Especially when I’m just kinda looking through pieces and filling in blank spaces here and there, it can seem as though you haven’t really accomplished much. With the tally counter I just touch my phone whenever I fit a piece into the puzzle. Then when I look at the number of pieces I feel as if I’ve made progress even if it doesn’t look like much has changed on the puzzle.

Three of the dwarfs finally got all or almost all of their hands and I did some general filling in. I’m at a loss as to what I should try to tackle next. Perhaps I’ll get all the remaining pieces laid out on trays and see what jumps out at me. Any suggestions? It seems as though there isn’t one color or area that would be easy to pick out to work on next. Lots of shades of brown/tan/yellowish that are similar, but I know once I start working on an area it will come to life and look as though it was simple to put together. That’s how it usually goes.

I also want to put in some time on the other puzzle I’m working on. I haven’t touched it since we started prepping for the hurricane, and it will be good to be able to make some progress or hopefully finish it.

So this is my progress after approximately 10 days. Not too shabby!

Hurricane Matthew has passed us by and boy were we blessed! Never lost power, no damage to the house, family and friends all safe. Thank the Lord!

So I was able to get a little puzzle time today, and was able to get a few things done. Doc got his coat, most of the 2nd rabbit is done, some general filling in and Snow White is finally finished! It’s starting to take shape and I’m happy with my progress. I’m excited to see how long it takes me to finish this section and exactly how big each one will be.

When I tell people I’m working on the worlds largest jigsaw puzzle they are amused; when they hear that it’s almost 23 feet long and 6 1/2 feet high they think I’m insane. Perhaps. But I’m enjoying my insanity, it’s super fun!

Slow and steady wins the race!

Only about 75 or so pieces added today, and mostly all over so I can’t really point to anything specific that got done other than Sneezy’s (I think) hands and part of Snow White’s arm. Otherwise there was just general filling in where I could.

We doubled the size of our household today with loved ones here to ride out the storm because ours is the only cement block house in the family. We also added 3 extra dogs, so it’s been a bit of a madhouse here. But I’m happy to be able to keep everyone safe from our uninvited guest Matthew. Our house was built in the 60’s and has survived every hurricane for over 50 years, so we’re praying it keeps it’s stellar record.

We are most likely going to lose power soon as the outer rain bands are almost here. So I figured it was time to put up today’s post while I still can. I hope all our friends and family in Florida are hunkered down and staying safe. Take care!

The dwarfs are starting to look like themselves!

Despite our hurricane preparations today I was able to sit for a few minutes at a time and de-stress by working on my puzzle. It’s one of the great things about doing jigsaw puzzles; you have to concentrate on what you’re doing so it is a wonderful task to relieve stress and stop your mind from worrying, etc. We’re going to be having 4 extra adults and 3 extra dogs at the house for the duration of the storm, so a little time not having to think is just what I needed!

Things are moving along pretty well, especially since I’m basically the only one working on the puzzle. My husband has put a few pieces in, and since my mother and daughter will be here for the next few days I’m hoping they’ll want to help too. Perhaps there will be a lot of progress made with more hands to help 🙂

Hope all is well with friends and loved ones in Matthew’s path. Looks like he’s coming ashore pretty much on top of us as of tonight’s forecast. Be safe.
