Where In Neverland Is It?

Tink, help us find it!

It’s been four and a half years since I completed an enormous 40,320 piece puzzle (this is only 1/10 of it), and I am still to this day receiving emails and comments on the blog asking me where the Mickey Mouse icon is in this section. Well, today I decided to show everyone instead of just telling them where to look.

There is a hidden icon of our favorite rodent in each section; the one in this section not only seems to be the most difficult to find, it’s also the largest – which I think is why so many people get thrown off when looking for it. In the other nine sections it’s quite small; the markings on a deer in Snow White, a small bubble in Fantasia, etc. But the one in Peter Pan is huge in comparison, and therefore it doesn’t register at first when you’re looking for it. It didn’t for us anyway. Not at first.

Back when the puzzle first arrived, my husband and I, two of our three children, and my mother SCOURED the booklet looking for the icon in this section. Some of the others were easy to find, and we already had it in our heads that it would be small and somewhat hidden. The Peter Pan section is very dark, and we all looked at every inch of the image to try and find it. When someone finally said, “Hey could it be these clouds? They’re perfect circles, it’s gotta be this right?”, we weren’t certain but thought that it was probably the icon. After thoroughly looking through the image in the booklet, and seeing every single piece of the actual puzzle, our conclusion was that the cloud was, in fact, the icon we’d all been searching for.

The picture I took of this completed section has quite a bit of glare on it, making it very hard to see. So here’s a picture from the large booklet that comes with the puzzle (this was easier than waking up the enormous puzzle from under my bed where it’s sleeping).

Can you find it? Tink’s fairy dust is pointing the way….

I’ve added arrows pointing to the ears. They faked us out making the other icons so small and this one so big – it’s even bigger than Tinkerbell herself!

Don’t feel bad if you couldn’t find it on your own – when we put the puzzle together and it was large as life in front of everyone many people had to be shown even after being told where it was. I’ve even got a picture of me on my hands and knees crawling on the puzzle to show someone. 😊

16,128 pieces assembled, 24,192 to go!

Section number 4 complete!  It didn’t take long at all today, there weren’t many pieces left.  I’m so proud of myself, this section was difficult!

So 15 days for this puzzle, not too shabby. It was a nice change after finishing Dumbo to have 4 larger characters to assemble instead of one huge character. The filmstrip is always fun, and because this is a corner there was twice as much filmstrip to assemble. This section was a challenge, but I still enjoyed it very much.

So, onto the next section – The Jungle Book. There’s a lot of green, but it’ll be a nice change from all the blue. 🙂 It won’t be a walk in the park either, but I still plan on having a great time assembling it. Besides, this one is my favorite Disney movie and I LOVE the music from it. It’ll be fun listening to the soundtrack while I work.

There are lots of plants and water, little splashes of color with the flowers, a very large rock and of course Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera. A beautiful image and I’m very excited to get going on it. And when The Jungle Book is complete I will be halfway done! WOW!

About 150 pieces to go!

It’s almost there! I only have one row to finish on the right side and 2 rows on the top!

It always seems to go much faster near the end, there are less pieces to choose from and it’s much easier to match up shades of color and shapes. I’ll finish tomorrow, I’m super excited!

I was completely wrong when I thought that I’d want to take a break in between sections, because all I want to do is immediately get going on the next one! .I’ve already pulled the bag of pieces for the next section. Once I finish tomorrow I’ll probably get going right away on sorting if I’m feeling up to it.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s picture of the completed Peter Pan section! 🙂  I will do my best to take a good picture with no glare.

I’m looking at all the darkness and clouds and can’t believe I’ve done all that. Not much more to go, so it’s gonna be finished in the next 2 or 3 days depending on how I’m feeling and if I get any assistance.  Mom will have to come over in the next day or so to put at least one piece in, it’s become our tradition! Shouldn’t be a problem though, since I’m dog sitting tomorrow for her, she’ll be over to drop off her little guy.

Tomorrow begins the twinklies. This section seems to have the twinklies a little farther down into the puzzle.  It may be that way for all the sections on the bottom, I’m not sure yet – the first 3 sections I completed were on the top half of the puzzle. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m not finding the pieces I’m looking for because they most likely have stars on them and are in the last container of pieces. So tomorrow I’ll separate them and begin the final countdown. I’m excited to get it finished!

More filling in today.  There are about 900 pieces left to go!  I may be able to have this section finished by Monday or Tuesday of next week. Maybe sooner if hubby sees how close I am and wants to help at the end. 😉

Plenty of blue left to go, then it’s on to the twinklies. Still having a good time, and I am actually not frustrated at all.  Maybe it’s because I like the whole puzzle and am excited to be working towards completion. Or maybe I’m just a jigsaw junkie who is addicted to puzzles. Perhaps both!

I saw today that someone has already finished this puzzle.  In 2 months!  I feel like a slacker. 😐 But I can only do what I can do, and it’s not a competition. I’m doing this because I want to accomplish it, and because it’s fun – not because I want to be the first or the fastest.  Lord knows I am definitely not the fastest! I’m doing what I can do, even if I can only work on the puzzle for 10 minutes at a time.  Congrats to the lady who has finished it already though. Way to go!
