Downtown Freemont…In Progress…

Downtown Freemont, Las Vegas, Nevada by Susanne Kremer – Cra-Z-Art (Kodak) – 350 pieces

I’ve had a pretty terrible week, puzzle-wise. It started quite well, with a collage of musicals from stage and screen, obviously I loved that one. It began going downhill after that into a series of three different puzzles from three different brands that were disappointing, frustrating, and upsetting. I told my bestest puzzle pal that apparently I’m not supposed to actually enjoy puzzling this week. That day was a bad day and I felt the depression creeping back in.

So, after a day spent almost entirely in bed I decided I was getting back on the horse and I was going to find a puzzle here to make me happy – no matter what! Not an easy task when you’re in a black sort of mood and nothing looks good…or like fun…or the right one for the right time. I hope you have some inkling of what I mean, otherwise I’m just rambling here.

After much searching through all my new purchases, my thrift store finds, and all the puzzles on my shelves I came across this one; I have hopes that the assembly will be both entertaining and a balm for my bruised and battered puzzle mojo.

  • smaller piece count – ✔
  • bright colors – ✔
  • easy to moderate difficulty – ✔
  • relatively good brand – eh, we’ll see, this one’s hit or miss

So far this is all I’ve done, but it’s been a bad week in the pain department as well so there wasn’t much time that I was able to actually sit in front of the puzzle board and work on it. I’m about halfway done, and I’m happy as a clam that it hasn’t disappointed me yet. 🤞

Yes, it seems like it was a difficult week for you, but great that you didn’t let it get you down for long. This one is really cute. I like old, vintage cars in a puzzle. Makes it fun.

YAAAAAAAAAY!! YOU’RE BACK!!!!!!!!!! I’ve missed you. Really! SO much! I don’t even know you but I’ve missed you. I feel for your struggles and I admire how you talk about them. You are so good with words and I appreciate what you share. I pray for this weekend’s cloud to lift. But even as I write that I know that description is not at all adequate. I know the challenges are heavy and oppressive and all encompassing. I am now the one and only caregiver for my 98 year old dad who deals with it, too, so I know the struggle is very real.

I first came to your blog in 2023 after I had unfortunate fisticuffs with a coyote. My hand was mangled and I dealt with pain and trauma and fear and isolation and a year of surgeries. I had difficulty doing the things I enjoyed like doing puzzles or staying awake for books. And working. But I somehow came across your blog and I enjoyed reading your entries and I felt like I was safe and among friends here. So thank you for doing what you do, I love it all. Please know you are appreciated.

    Peace and Love, Nancy

    1. Nancy! It’s so good to hear from you. I’m hoping the use of past tense in your description of your difficulties after your coyote fight means that things are better now. How is your hand? Are you able to puzzle and read and work? I remember talking with you about it, and hope that things have improved greatly for you.

Thank you for your kind words and appreciation. It’s so nice to know that the blog and my words helped you, even if only a little bit.

      Welcome back my friend!

You are so thoughtful! It took a long time but I got complete use of my hand back. Puzzling is a great addition to physical therapy! My only residual problems are that a few fingers are still always cold and sometimes it’s kind of achy. I hope my experience doesn’t throw shade on coyotes. I have learned a lot about them these past few years and now I’m kind of a coyote defender. It’s unusual for them to attack a person like that. I think I just happened to hike where I was unknowingly close to a den. It was Spring. The coyote was probably just being a good momma protecting her babies.

Thank you so much for your kind reply and for remembering me.

    1. Wow, you are amazingly forgiving; I’m not sure I could be that generous if I were maimed by an animal. What a kind person you are!

I’m so glad you’re still able to puzzle, and glad you found your way back to the blog. I’m so looking forward to talking with you in the comments from now on. Happy puzzling!
