Hero Worship by Charles Wysocki – Buffalo – 300 pieces
This is such a fun image, and it made for a great afternoon of puzzling. I love an interesting and different Wysocki, and I also very much enjoy a 300 piece Buffalo puzzle – and this was both. Nice!
I’m recovering from another surgery, so I’ve got a few posts already typed up and they’ve been scheduled to be published every day. Some of them are extremely short and sweet like this one and some are a bit longer; but don’t worry, I’ll be checking in every day when I’m feeling up to it, and will be back and posting lots and lots of words about all my puzzles very soon.😎
Rooster Express by Charles Wysocki – Milton Bradley – 300 pieces
I love a Wysocki image that isn’t the norm, ones that maybe only have one house instead of many; or ones that feature something different, like this rooster. This puzzle is the perfect example of that.
Most puzzles by Charles Wysocki we’ve done are produced by Buffalo Games, every once in a while I come across one from another manufacturer. This beauty is made by Milton Bradley. The quality is very good; with thick pieces, excellent image reproduction, and a beautiful fit. It was a joy to assemble!
I assembled it a little differently than usual, I started from the top and put together the sky, buildings, and fields. Then I went to the bottom and assembled the road, wagon, and rooster. After that all that was left was the grass, which didn’t take much time at all. It was over too quickly! It was more fun than I thought it would be, those are my favorite types of puzzles. 🙂
Beach Bums by Charles Wysocki – Hasbro – 300 pieces
You can usually tell a Wysocki image just by looking at it, but I didn’t realize this puzzle was his until I read it on the box. This is unusual and I absolutely love it.
I’m always a little surprised at how good the quality of the Hasbro 300 EZ grip pieces are. They’re super thick and sturdy and fit together extremely well. There are a very good variety of piece shapes and excellent image reproduction; just all around wonderful quality. I’ve worked several larger piece count puzzles by Hasbro/Milton Bradley and they are not the same quality-wise. I never hesitate to get one of their EZ grip puzzles though, they’ve always been excellent.
There’s something about this image that I can’t put my finger on, all I know is that when I look at it there’s a smile on my face. It makes for wonderful puzzling as well; it’s easy to sort and fun to assemble but it isn’t so easy as to be boring.
Can’t wait to see what other awesome puzzles mom finds on her next thrift store shopping spree!🛒
Root Beer Break at the Butterfields by Charles Wysocki – Buffalo Games – 300 pieces
This was such an interesting experiment for me – I was sent this puzzle to review, but I had previously assembled it. I purposely didn’t look at my post from last year until after I completed the puzzle; I didn’t want to know what I thought before, I wanted to assemble it fresh. So how did this puzzle do the second time around?
Root Beer Break at the Butterfields was an excellent, entertaining puzzle that I loved both times I assembled it. The image is different than the usual Wysocki, with a single building at the beach, and it’s a 300 large piece puzzle which I absolutely adore.
Buffalo puzzles are very good quality, and their 300 and 500 piece puzzles are my favorite sizes. The larger pieces are easier to handle, and fit together a little more snugly than their 1000 piece puzzles. They don’t have the signature Buffalo zig zag pieces, but the variety of shapes is still very good and the fit and image reproduction is great. Click the link above to see all the Buffalo puzzles currently available at Puzzle Warehouse, they have some gorgeous puzzles ranging from 300 to 2000 pieces!
The pieces were very easy to sort and easy to assemble. The sky was the most challenging section, but there were plenty of clouds and color changes to help in finding the correct piece. The bright colors of the kites on the fence were fun to find and assemble and helped break up the fence and the sand. All around this was a quick, entertaining puzzle that was just as much fun the second time around!

Sugar & Spice by Charles Wysocki – Buffalo – 300 pieces
I’ve done several Charles Wysocki puzzles lately with single buildings, and I very much enjoy them. They’ve mostly been Buffalo puzzles, and I honestly prefer the 300 piece count in this brand.
For me, I have to be in the right frame of mind to do a larger Buffalo puzzle, it’s something about the size of the pieces, but I’m honestly not exactly sure what it is. I open a 1000 piece Buffalo puzzle that I love the image of and look at the pieces, and most of the time I put the lid back on and say “not today”. I prefer the 300 and 500 piece counts because they’re not as overwhelming to me. Of course lately I’ve been preferring those piece counts because of physical limitations on the amount of time I’m able to puzzle; it’s not a reflection on Buffalo quality, which is quite good.
This puzzle was great fun, and the assembly was relatively quick. The Wysocki puzzles with only one building are a little more unique and therefore more enjoyable for me to do. I love the look of his artwork, but his regular folk/Americana puzzles all start to look the same to me and aren’t as interesting for me to assemble. This one was great with plenty of interesting parts to find and put together and a lovely finished image.
What makes a great puzzle image is so subjective, everyone enjoys something different. That’s what’s so great about puzzling! There are so many companies and so many artists that you’re bound to find something that jumps out at you and begs to be assembled. For me this was a great image with wonderful quality and I definitely recommend it!
