Yarn Party

Yarn Party by Linda Picken – Karmin International – 550 pieces

Another thrift store puzzle, this one hadn’t even been opened yet! This was my first puzzle from Karmin. Although I’ve seen the name before, hadn’t worked a puzzle from them.

I enjoyed this puzzle, even though I was unimpressed with the quality of the pieces. They were quite thin and easily bent, there was a large amount of puzzle dust both in the bag and in the box itself, and there was quite a bit of glare from the coating on the pieces. Luckily the puzzle wasn’t overly large and I was able to carry it on the board to a place in the room where I could take a picture of it without all the glare bouncing off of it.

That being said, still enjoyed myself. The image was cute, the piece shapes were interesting and not everything has to be perfect all the time. Even though the pieces were thin I still had fun putting the puzzle together and found that I enjoyed the assembly in spite of the quality! Sometimes I’m too in my head and I should just relax and have fun, right?

It doesn’t feel like I got much accomplished today, spent a lot of time in bed resting and napping. But looking at yesterday’s picture makes me feel a little better, I got pretty much the lower right side all filled in!

It feels at the moment like it’s crawling along at a snail’s pace, but I’m trying to remember that every piece I fit into the puzzle is progress. There are less than 1000 pieces to go, and although I was hoping to have it finished by tomorrow evening, that is definitely NOT going to happen. It’ll be done when it gets done, and I’ll be happy whenever that is. 🙂

All the main characters are finally done! Mufasa, Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki and Zazu are finished. Took me forever to find Rafiki’s arms but I got it done. 😉

All that’s left are the scores of animals across the bottom. (I wanted to use the word “menagerie” instead of scores but I looked it up just to be sure and it is a collection of captive animals, and that definitely doesn’t apply) Anyway, I’m planning on working on the large elephant on the right side first. It’s mainly just a great big elephant ear with a little bit of the trunk and tusk showing, but it’s where I’m working next. You can see the top of the ear against the back of Pride Rock.

After that it may just be jumping from one animal to another, or I may work on the giraffes since I have some of those pieces separated out. As usual, I’m not sure. According to my count there are about 1400 pieces left in this section. Amazing! The giant empty space in the picture seems like there should be way more pieces remaining to me.

Hopefully it won’t be too much longer and I can get this baby done!

Most of the sky is done, and I even got started on the back side of Pride Rock. It’s looking pretty darn good. I love the sky in this section – it’s absolutely beautiful!

I’m surprised how much I’m still loving this whole puzzle. I thought for sure there would be boredom at some point, that I’d put it away for a couple weeks or so and come back to it reluctantly. Surprisingly that hasn’t happened; and sometimes when I’m not feeling well I’m upset that I’m not able to work on it more. I’m even having trouble working on other puzzles.  At one point I had started and put away 3 different puzzles – I just wasn’t “feeling it” and only wanted to be working on my Memorable Disney Moments. And yes, I do realize how weird I sound, and how weird I am. But I love me and I’m still having loads of fun, that’s what matters. 😎

I haven’t decided where to go next. I could work on the dark part of Pride Rock or start on the giraffes on the left side of the image. I usually have a plan, but my brain doesn’t seem to be working at the moment. As usual, I will probably see what grabs my attention and start there. Sometimes it’s good to not have a plan – it’s like an adventure! 😉
