Vintage Fairy Tales by Lois B. Sutton – White Mountain – 1000 pieces
Long time readers of the blog may be surprised to hear this, but I didn’t enjoy this collage as much as I’d hoped to. The fit was NOT good, and the loose, floppy manner in which the pieces fit together was a pain to deal with. A bit of a bummer, as this was one of the new purchases that I was very excited to assemble. Sigh.
White Mountain puzzles have never been a premium quality brand in my opinion, but I always know that going in when I purchase them and deal with their issues because of my adoration and love for collage images. White Mountain and Re-marks both have excellent catalogs of collages, and when necessary I deal with less than premium quality because those kind of puzzle images make me extremely happy.
Perhaps I just wasn’t in the mood to deal with it this time, cause it kinda p*ssed me off. (Part of it could have been that I received two gifted puzzles yesterday from Penny my puzzle posse pal and as soon as they arrived I REALLY wanted to get started on one of them. Who knows?)
Honestly, this puzzle annoyed me because I was so looking forward to it and it let me down in the quality department. I didn’t even want to take any close up pictures this time or talk about any of the books.
Annoyed. Disappointed. A little sad too.
When i first got back into puzzling I got a couple White Mountain from Hobby Lobby for the images attracted me but in the quality department they are not great I find it so disappointing when one is excited to do a puzzle to have the quality take what should be a relaxing time into frustration.

It really is disappointing Kay, I loved the image so much and was so looking forward to it. Happily though, I just finished another White Mountain a few days ago that had a wonderful fit and was highly entertaining. It’s hit and miss with them, which in itself is disappointing.

I have never understood why there are people who are White Mountain fans- literally when they trade, they only want White Mountain. I haven’t found them to be the best of quality, either. Decent, not great (I have the same opinion about Ravensburger- nice and sturdy but a rather boring piece cut).

Everyone has their things that make a good puzzle for them, and we’re all different. I am astounded by the people who think those puzzles from China with the letters on the back are good quality, but that’s just not what I’m looking for in a puzzle. Happily there are enough brands and puzzles out there that we can (hopefully) all find puzzles with images and quality that make us happy. This one was a stinker for me, but maybe for someone else it would be just fine.

Yes, you are so right. I have a friend I sometimes go thrifting with, and it’s nice that we have a different taste in puzzles, so there is no conflict over wanting the same ones!

I enjoy White Mountain puzzles, not the collages, but the ones with different beach scenes, I find them very relaxing. As we puzzle, we try all sorts of brands. Some are perfect, but even Ravensburger has loose fits, and sometimes the puzzle pieces feel like they are vintage. They just have an old feeling, not crisp and new. I just did a fun Re-marks puzzle of postage stamps. That was so much fun. Bummer that you didn’t enjoy this puzzle. I do think that “sometimes” we are in the mood for a certain puzzle or we are not. Happy puzzling!

You’re right of course, my mood most likely wasn’t the best while I was working this one. I was so looking forward to it and was immediately disappointed then I don’t think anything could have made me feel better about it.

So true, puzzles like reading a book depend on our mood.

I have a love stamp puzzle from White Mountain that is a favorite of mine, but I haven’t done a lot of theirs. I find it fascinating what images people gravitate towards and how different we all can be in what we like. So interesting!

We’re all endlessly fascinating, it’s amazing how very different all of our tastes and preferences are – at least it is to me.
