Clue In Progress…

Clue – Spin Master – 1000 pieces

I just finished sorting this morning and quickly put together the logo that goes in the middle – and I got all the pieces on the initial sort – way to go me!

The quality is less impressive than I was hoping for; the pieces are thin, the fit is very loose and there are a LOT of bent pieces. It’s quite different than Harmony Harbor by the same brand that I just posted about two days ago. That puzzle had quite a few bent pieces as well, but the chipboard was thicker, the finish was matte instead of shiny and the fit was very good.

According to the blog this is my first 1000 piece puzzle by this brand, and unfortunately so far I’m underwhelmed.

Apparently this is one of a series of six puzzles with images of classic board games, the others are Guess Who?, Monopoly, Battleship, Life, and Scrabble. They aren’t available online other than on resale sites; you can only get them in-store at Target and they seem to be extremely difficult to get. I wasn’t aware of any of this when I purchased it, and honestly I’m finding it quite frustrating just trying to get any information about this puzzle and/or the series.

Here’s hoping the assembly is less exasperating than the search for info about the puzzle itself. Fingers crossed!🤞

I guess everyone’s Target is different. My Target does have a good amount of puzzles. Mainly Buffalo Games and Ceaco, and a few images for the small box format for Ravensburger and White Mountain Puzzles, and then the Spin Master puzzles.

Deb, the six board game themed puzzles by Spin Master are exclusive to Target. Three were released last fall, the other three a couple of months ago

Spin Master is a mysterious company, at least when it comes to their puzzles. They just really don’t update their website when it comes to what puzzles are currently available/unavailable and they don’t sell direct to consumer which might be why they don’t bother to update their website.

The board games puzzle collection was exclusive to Target although Spin Master puzzles are also at Wal-mart too. The first collection of board games puzzles was The Game of Life, Clue, and Monopoly. The other three — Battleship, Scrabble, and Guess Who, were released a few months ago.

I have this Clue puzzle as well, I think I bought it last fall at Target, but haven’t assembled it yet. I got it on sale for $7.49.

Spin Master is hit or miss when it comes to quality. I know this and still willingly buy their puzzles from time to time because of the budget-friendly prices.

Here’s some of the Spin Master puzzles we’ve done:

My best quality Spin Master puzzle was Party Time ($6.99 on sale) and the not best quality puzzle was Party with a Daschund (Walmart $6.97, regular price apparently)

I totally get that. If the quality of your puzzle was my first experience with Spin Master games I’d probably avoid them in the future, but from experience with their puzzles I do know that Spin Master is capable of making good/great quality puzzles. It’s just a bummer their quality isn’t consistent so you don’t know what you’re getting into until you open up the puzzle box and spill out the pieces. If the image and price is right (like that Goldilocks puzzle) I’ll take a chance and cross my fingers. I’m glad I did with the Party Time puzzle because that was a fantastic quality puzzle and great image.

      2. Inconsistent quality is something I’m definitely not a fan of, I will deal with it if the company has a catalog of images I really like – so far the only companies on that list are Re-marks and White Mountain (although my last White Mtn. was very disappointing)

I totally get that and I’m the same way too when it comes to inconsistent quality. If a company is capable of making both poor and great quality puzzles why not just always make them great?!

My exceptions are White Mountain and Spin Master.

For now, Buffalo Games is on my no-buy list. I haven’t bought any of their new releases in 2023 because I don’t know if they’ve fixed their quality control and chipboard issues. And I’m tired of having my heart broken by them. They used to be one of my most favorite brands.
