Christmas Day (What If? #15)

Christmas Day by Geoff Tristram (What If? #15) – Ravensburger – 1000 pieces

Another wonderful What If? puzzle from Ravensburger; great quality, hilarious image, and fun all-around puzzling. Was there any doubt as to whether or not I’d enjoy this one? Nope.

This one’s been hanging around my house for about…..seven years or so. Oh my! It’s been constantly moved down on the list of puzzles to be done, because I have this irrational dislike of Christmas puzzles. Even though I know that images by Geoff Tristram are always entertaining and funny it still took me forever to get this one done.

As per my usual I do not show the finished puzzle, as it’s a mystery what the image is. You have to figure it out as you assemble. The box says “We all dream of the perfect Christmas, a day full of happy family memories, where gifts are gratefully received, everyone is full of festive cheer, and the catering goes without a hitch. But WHAT IF Christmas Day wasn’t perfect? And WHAT IF our family’s Christmas wasn’t that merry?” The image on the box top shows the type of Christmas we all dream about, but the puzzle inside shows the holiday many of us really experience.

Normally I never show anything other than the small hint on the box top, which is usually one of the characters – but this time there was a little joke that actually made me laugh out loud, so I wanted to share it with you too…

As I was assembling it I thought it would be Monopoly, but this is so much better! Actually, that’s how I feel about Monopoly, it takes so long and I find it mind-numbingly boring. Hours of misery for all the family! 😂

This was a great puzzle with a hilarious image, it is most definitely recommended. I’m giving it two snowflakes way up! ❄❄

Northern Lights In Progress…

Northern Lights by Nancy Wernersbach – Ravensburger – 500 pieces

Unfortunately there hasn’t been a lot of puzzling going on here the past few days, but I did manage to get this one going yesterday at least.

It already looks pretty good, don’t you think? Those Northern Lights are beautiful in the sky. 😍

Maleficent

Maleficent (Disney Villainous) – Ravensburger – 1000 pieces

This beautiful and dark image was quite the challenge, but fortunately the resident Puzzle Goddess was up to the task! All of the Disney Villainous puzzles are quite dark, but this one seemed even more so and made for some difficult puzzling.

The quality was very good, typical for Ravensburger puzzles in my opinion. There’s something about finishing a Ravensburger puzzle and running my hands over it, my little puzzle massage. It feels fantastic!

This is Merriweather – my favorite of the three fairies in the Sleeping Beauty movie. She’s a little shorter and thicker than her sisters and a bit more stubborn, which makes her adorable in my eyes and she was always my favorite. Doesn’t she look determined?

I started with the fairies and worked on the easiest sections to pick out with the lighter colors. The circular picture frames were the easiest to find and so I began with them. It wasn’t as easy to pick out the pieces for what went inside the frames, because many of the pictures had such dark images in them.

Many of the framed images were dark and indistinct, it made it very difficult to fill them in. They all made me want to get myself better lighting above the puzzle board. I haven’t mentioned it to hubby because the moment I do he’ll want to find and order new lighting and then he’ll be disrupting my puzzle time with the installation. (Perhaps I’m just moody today and even thinking about all the interruptions is making me a bit cranky.)

Although I enjoyed assembling this puzzle very much and I do recommend it, it comes with a bit of a warning. It is VERY dark and not an easy assembly; it isn’t recommended for someone who isn’t accustomed to assembling challenging images.

Cabana Retreat

Cabana Retreat by Nancy Wernersbach – Ravensburger – 500 pieces

This was an excellent quality large piece Ravensburger puzzle, with a beautiful image that was lovely to assemble. 💖

Nancy Wernersbach images are usually quite fun to put together, most of the artwork by her that I’ve done has been outdoor scenes; beachside, flower shop, cottage, etc. There’s something calming and beautiful about her work and it makes for excellent puzzling.

The large piece Ravensburger puzzles are quite fun for me, there’s a special something about the larger pieces that I find wonderful to work with. And the larger finished puzzle makes you feel as if you’ve accomplished something impressive when you’re done; it’s about the size of a typical 1000 piece puzzle.

A beach bag filled with books, drinks, perhaps a little puzzle, and maybe a snack or two sitting beside a bucket of champagne – doesn’t that sound like a lovely afternoon? If it weren’t for the sand (it gets everywhere!) and being out in the sun it would sound nice.

A plate of fruits with what could be a little pot of Nutella or chocolate sauce to dip them in – now that sounds amazing!

Great puzzle; excellent quality, beautiful artwork, and a good time was definitely had. Highly recommended!

Most Everyone is Mad

Most Everyone is Mad by Dean MacAdam – Ravensburger – 1000 pieces

This puzzle was even more enjoyable than I’d anticipated, which is always a fun revelation. There’s something about Dean MacAdam’s artwork, it makes for such fantastic puzzling – I haven’t been disappointed yet. 😍

The quality was excellent, my only issue was the amount of puzzle dust. I emptied the pieces out into my colander to start sorting, folded up the bag they came in to throw it away and got a HUGE poof of dust right in the face. Not only that, the amount of dust that ended up in the box after sorting was crazy; not the usual amount for a Ravensburger in my experience. I joked about snorting puzzle dust a couple of years ago, let me tell you – it ain’t fun!

I’m not sure why, but the look of these flowers made me very happy and they were the first characters I put together.

The Mad Hatter here was more difficult to find and assemble than I thought he would be. Most of the pieces for him had such small bits that it was hard to know what I was looking at. (Except the sparkly purple hat, that was pretty easy to locate)

I didn’t even notice until the entire puzzle was assembled that there were symbols for each suit in a deck of card carved into the tree around the Cheshire Cat. The heart at the top was noticeable, but I didn’t register that the others were suits until the whole picture was finished. *I’ve lightened up the color a bit so it’s easier to see the suits*

This puzzle was a joy to assemble, it is highly recommended. 👍🐛👍
