Unfortunately for me this is the last puzzle from the box of 20 that mom and I found at a local thrift store. I’ve had such a great time putting these together that I’m a little sad that they’re all done.

I consider myself educated and intelligent, but I have to tell you I was surprised to learn from this puzzle that there are penguins native to Africa. I may have heard that before, but I obviously didn’t process or retain it. To me the continent of Africa brings to mind deserts, jungles, safaris, and heat. Penguins in Africa? How awesome!

I have to get myself to the thrift stores to see what other treasures I can find. My black belt thrift store shopping puzzle dealer isn’t around anymore to keep me swimming in interesting and beautiful puzzles – it’s time I started supplying myself. It’s worth a little pain to get myself out of the house and searching for some fun and unique puzzles.

When I started assembling each one from this big box of kids puzzles, every one I grabbed was complete, and I had high hopes that every one would be all there. Unfortunately my wish wasn’t granted and I had to send three of them to the recycling bin, including this one.

I assembled this puzzle with the educational side up, I usually do. I find them much more interesting and I love seeing what there is to learn about the subject of the puzzle.

I enjoyed the explanation of how a steam engine works, and it was interesting to see how trains have changed over the years. Just because this puzzle is only 24 pieces and geared towards children doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it or even learn something from it.

I really need to get my butt out of the house and get to the thrift store. Who knows what other wonderful treasures are waiting there for me to find?

This is one of the last few kids puzzles from the box of 20, and one of the last complete ones too. I found this box at one of our local thrift stores while mom and I were shopping many, many months ago and I’ve been parsing them out here and there.

I find the educational side more entertaining than the picturesque side, I love the facts and lists they have. On the back of this puzzle were all the species pictured above and a map of Africa showing where they are found

I’m a bit sad these puzzles are coming to an end; I’ve enjoyed assembling them all, and learning and re-learning all sorts of things. I may have to get myself back to the thrift stores and find out what other fun puzzles I can get my hands on!

Another from the big box of 24 piece educational kids puzzles, I’m learning things I didn’t know before, or perhaps I knew and just forgot! 😉

This time I assembled one side, then scrambled up the pieces again and reassembled the other. I’m giving myself 48 pieces on my count for the year on this one.

My dad used to call the disk ripper something else, but I don’t remember what. We had a John Deere tractor when I was growing up, but we didn’t grow crops. He used the tractor for many things, and we were always glad it was available to pull people out of the ditch in the winter. (We lived on a dirt road, and many people go too fast on back roads in the winter and end up in the ditch).

My sisters and I all knew how to drive the tractor well before we could legally drive; and we used it to mow our giant lawn, help split wood for the woodstove, clear the snow out of the driveway, etc. I loved that tractor, and anytime dad asked if I wanted to go with him when he was doing something with it I would always say yes and end up having fun with him.

Sorry for the trip down memory lane, this puzzle makes me think of my dad and that’s just where my mind went. 🙂

I’m loving these 24 piece puzzles; both the cute picture side and the informational side. They’re great when I want to complete something quickly, which is usually right after I finish a larger sized adult puzzle. These puzzles are excellent quality too; that’s not always the case with children’s puzzles and I appreciate it when we find great quality.

I learned about the differences between an English and Western saddle, and the different types of bits – I didn’t know any of that before – obviously I’m not a horse person. I have nothing against them, they’re beautiful animals, I just haven’t been around them all that much.

I still have about 5 or 6 puzzles from this box to assemble, and I’m looking forward to finishing them all. I’m trying to space them out because a bunch of kids puzzles in a row would probably be boring to read about, but I also want to get them finished and send them off to school with my daughter. The kids love puzzles, and my daughter tells me they’re needing some new ones.
