To Fetch or Not to Fetch by John Cuneo – NY Puzzle Co. – 500 pieces
I like the image of this New Yorker cover, although the painterly style sometimes made for a more challenging assembly. It’s a well made puzzle, good quality – but it isn’t for beginners.
The border of this one needed a big straw (it sucked) – but only on the side with the black stripe. It was so dark, and a couple of pieces seemed to fit where they did not belong; that’s one thing I despise in a puzzle, I like to know when a piece fits that it’s the correct one. Several pieces that fit perfectly in the same space is so annoying!
Otherwise this was an entertaining assembly, there was a LOT of grass, but there’s enough shading, etc. so it didn’t seem too insurmountable.
This is what it looked like once I’d put in every piece that had something other than green – the rest were all shades of green. Not much fun, but once it was finished I was glad I kept at it. Yay me!
To Fetch or Not to Fetch by John Cuneo – New York Puzzle Co. – 500 pieces
I’m not sure why my brain has decided that this puzzle is next and that it WILL BE conquered, but that’s what’s happening over here. Hopefully it’ll get a little bit better as I go along, but as of now it’s a little “iffy” – as in, I’m not sure how I actually feel about it. 🤷♀️
My long time readers may remember the times where I “get a bee in my bonnet” and become stubborn about finishing a puzzle no matter what; well, there seems to be another bee. Oh dear. 🐝

With the Coronavirus taking hold across the globe, people around the world are finding that they have much more time on their hands. With “shelter in place” orders, people being encouraged to work from home if possible, needing to care for children who are no longer in school, and people being asked to quarantine themselves at home – we all seem to have more time than we normally do for more sedentary pursuits.
It will be no surprise that I’m encouraging everyone to try working on jigsaw puzzles with some of their extra time; you might find that not only is it an extremely enjoyable pastime, but that it also helps to relieve some of the stress and anxiety that most of us are feeling these days. My regular readers know that I’m constantly emphasizing that jigsaw puzzles are not only entertaining, but actually good for both your physical and mental well-being.
Did you know that assembling jigsaw puzzles can help lower your blood pressure, relieve anxiety and stress, improve your mood, help you to deal with chronic pain, and even increase your IQ? These are just a few of the health benefits one gets from puzzling – there are many, many more. Most important of all in these troubled times is that puzzles can take our minds off of the day-to-day burdens and worries that we are all carrying and allow us to relax. Couldn’t we all use a bit more relaxation, stress relief, and improved health these days?
To that end I’ve moved up the timing of my next puzzle giveaway. It was just last month that My Jigsaw Journal gave away a lovely 500 piece Milton Bradley puzzle, and the plan was to hold another giveaway for Mother’s Day at the beginning of May. We all could use some cheering up, so instead of a few months down the road I am holding a new giveaway right now. 🙂

Good Housekeeping Collection – New York Puzzle Company – 1000 pieces
I absolutely loved this puzzle, both because it was a collage and great fun and because it brought back memories. It was assembled once already. My mom and daughter did the majority of the assembly and I came in at the end and helped out; I didn’t feel as though I actually assembled it since they did most of the work, so it didn’t make it onto the blog. I have great memories of the three generations of women working on this together, and it’s a puzzle I will never get rid of.
I’ve done quite a few NY Puzzle Company puzzles, and I really like them. Their catalog has a lot of magazine covers, and I find they are great fun to assemble. The quality is very good too; thick pieces, very nice fit, and great image reproduction. I’ve never had a bad experience with this brand, which is something I can’t say about most of the brands I’ve assembled.
I just loved the look of this cover, how both the woman’s dress and the dog’s coat blend into the background color. (Plus, you can’t go wrong with a dog!) Several of the covers were the same, where the background color is the same as the clothes of the women so that they blend together.
I also was glad to see that not every cover is about fashion or cooking or some other “ladylike” pursuit – we ladies can do so much more than that! There were several covers of women doing things like working on a car tire, and even what I think was a suffragette being hauled off to prison. I like it!
My mother loved this puzzle, and that’s probably part of why I loved it too. It was great quality, a fun assembly, and a wonderfully challenging image – but even more than that it reminds me of her. She put this one together with my daughter and I before, but she loved it so much that she didn’t re-donate it, I found it at her house with her things. It’s a keeper for me, definitely.
