Creatures of the Cosmos

Creatures of the Cosmos by Sarah Walsh – Mudpuppy – 500 pieces

This puzzle was more enjoyable than I anticipated, and the pleasant surprise of having more than one piece shape was fantastic. Easy to sort, relatively easy to assemble, this one was lots of fun!

My daughter insisted I buy this one, and to be honest I wanted nothing to do with a Mudpuppy puzzle, but I couldn’t refuse my baby girl. Good thing too, because other than the “sharp” white backing I thought the quality of this puzzle was very good. My last Mudpuppy puzzle (a birthday gift) was good quality as well, but still had just the one piece shape; the fact that this one had a variety of shapes made me quite happy. Perhaps the fact that it had foil accents had something to do with the difference in pieces.

The stars in the constellations and the lines that connect them were all foil accents in this image. It’s hard to capture in a closeup picture, but it wasn’t difficult to work with at all.

Creatures of the Cosmos was enjoyable to assemble, and happily I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would! 🌟

Creatures of the Cosmos In Progress…

Creatures of the Cosmos by Sarah Walsh – Mudpuppy – 500 pieces

Unfortunately I haven’t been feeling well the past few days, so the puzzling going on here has been minimal. It’s taken two days to get this far on a 500 piece puzzle, definitely not normal for me.

This is one of the puzzles we got when my daughter and I went shopping a couple of weeks ago; she really wanted me to buy it, so of course I did. I wasn’t looking forward to assembling it to be honest; it’s a Mudpuppy, and their lack of variety in piece shape and sharp backing don’t make for great puzzling in my opinion. But – wonder of wonders – there are different piece shapes! Is this something new?

I will say this though…that border was a b*tch! 🤬

I Read Banned Books

I Read Banned Books by Laura Korzon – Mudpuppy – 500 pieces

You’re damn right I do! In fact, when I do a puzzle like this or read about banned books, it only makes me want to read them even more; I wonder if those book-banning d**che-bags understand that at all. Probably not, that would take critical thinking skills, logic, and comprehension.

This was a fantastic puzzle with very good quality that went together quite quickly – in fact it was almost too easy and I found myself wishing it was 750 or 1000 pieces to make it last a bit longer.

Although I don’t care for the backing Mudpuppy uses, and wish there was more than one piece shape, it was otherwise a very good quality puzzle. The fit was excellent, and the image reproduction was stellar. In fact, the fit was so good that….

I don’t know why it makes me so happy to be able to take pictures like this, but hey, if it makes me happy to take a stupid picture of a puzzle standing up – why not? It’s a little thing, and it really does make me smile. 😁

On the back of the small poster that comes with the puzzle is a little blurb about each of the books with one or two sentences describing what they’re about. A couple of the books I’d never heard of, and a few I’ve heard of but haven’t read. Finding out what they’re about has made me want to read them all. I’ve only read three of the nine books shown, but I’d definitely be interested in reading the rest of them.

This really was a fun, good quality puzzle. If it looks like it would be your pile of pieces, go for it! It’s very highly recommended – two stacks of banned books 📚📚 and two thumbs up! 👍👍

*Heartfelt and special thanks to my dear friend and fellow Puzzle/PADS Posse member Penny for this lovely birthday gift. I absolutely adored it! 💖*

…Banned Books In Progress…

I Read Banned Books by Laura Korzon – Mudpuppy – 500 pieces

If you are a regular reader you know how I feel about banned books. 🤬 A regular reader and member of my puzzle posse (and charter member of the PADS posse) who knows how I feel about both collages and banned books sent me this puzzle for an early birthday present. Of course it had to be next on my board – I love it!

It got sorted yesterday, but I wasn’t feeling well and spent much of the day in bed resting. Perhaps I got a bit too much rest during the day because about 1:30 this morning I was up and at the puzzle board getting this one started. 😴

As you can see I sorted them by section and started with the bottom row, but didn’t get all the pieces sorted correctly. It isn’t too surprising, I almost never get things sorted perfectly on the first try. That’s ok, nobody’s perfect – besides, it makes it more fun when I find the piece that’s missing.

It’s going really quickly, and I almost wish it had more pieces; it’s going to be over too soon! I’ve never done a Mudpuppy puzzle larger than 500 pieces, though I do know they make 1000 piecers. Has anyone ever done one of their larger piece count puzzles? If so, I’d love to hear what you think about the quality.

I’m not a fan of the sharp white backing that they use and I wish there was more than one piece shape, but the fit is excellent as is the image reproduction. The image is so entertaining to put together, of course I’m loving it!

Thanks again Penny, you chose a great puzzle! 💙

Songbirds

Songbirds by Neiko Ng – Mudpuppy – 500 pieces

This is a cute image, but it really wasn’t as entertaining for me as I’d hoped. There’s nothing wrong with it, really, perhaps my mood wasn’t right. It just seemed like it would be more fun than it actually was. Just my own personal opinion.

The quality was good. In typical Mudpuppy fashion there is only one piece shape – what I call ballerinas – two prong/two hole pieces. Boring. The reproduction is good, but the finish is very shiny; and the backing is that “sharp” white backing that I do not care for. Overall it’s a good quality puzzle, it just wasn’t my pile of pieces.
