Travel – Cavallini & Co. – 1000 pieces

This Christmas gift was the second of the puzzles that I picked out myself over Facetime call, I did a pretty good job don’t you think? It was lots of fun to put together, and even though it was on my board much longer than normally takes for a 1000 piece puzzle I was sad when it was over.

Cavallini & Co. puzzles are good quality, but quite expensive in my opinion. There are a variety of shapes, but most of the pieces are ballerinas. The fit is good, if a bit loose, the image reproduction is very good, but the finish is a bit shiny and darker areas can be difficult to work under artificial lights. Overall I’d give the brand a “good” rating. The puzzle comes in a tube, which isn’t ideal for those who keep their puzzles, it’s much harder to shelve than rectangular or square boxes; and the pieces come in a cloth bag which makes disassembly and repackaging annoyingly more time-consuming than it already is. As a bit of a pedant I also find it annoying that their packaging says “vintage puzzle”- that is just untrue. They are all new puzzles and the only thing vintage about them is perhaps the images. Just my two cents, of course.

I always like a section of a collage whose pieces are so very easy to pick out when I’m sorting. This was the easiest section to find all the pieces for – plus, it’s in the states. Gotta love “the Wonder City” – though I don’t ever recall hearing that nickname for New York before.

This was another section with easy to find pieces, and the assembly was lots of fun too.

The giraffe in this section was much more difficult to assemble than I bargained for, and I was shocked at how much it hurt my brain to try and get this one together. Perhaps it was the pain meds, but I rather think it was just that I wasn’t in the right head space when I was putting this part together. The rest of the puzzle didn’t seem that difficult, it was just this tall guy here giving me fits. 🦒

Overall it was a lovely puzzle, with beautiful old travel posters that made for an entertaining and absorbing assembly. Can’t ask for much more than that!

Travel – Cavallini & Co. – 1000 pieces

Thought I’d be done with this one yesterday, as the two spaces shown here are all that’s left to go; but I was feeling like crap on a cracker so I didn’t even sit at the puzzle table all day.

Oh well, I’m feeling a little better today and back at the table this morning, so it shouldn’t be too long before this one is done.

Are you working on something fun? Do tell!

This interesting puzzle belongs to my sister-in-law, she brought it upstairs to show it to me while we were visiting and I couldn’t resist it. Of course we had to put it together, look at all those words! 😁

I’ve only ever done one other puzzle by this company, and I find them to be very good quality. They use the “sharp” white backing that I’m not fond of, but otherwise they make very nice puzzles. They’re a bit pricey for me, but there’s always the thrift store and purchasing them second-hand.

All of their puzzle packages say “Vintage Puzzle” on them, which I find to be misleading; perhaps what they mean is that the images are vintage, or vintage-looking. In my mind vintage means at least 20-40 years old; these puzzles definitely are not old, they are newly manufactured. Maybe that’s just me being pedantic, but I’m allowed – it’s my blog. 😁

This tall section showing Central Park was one of the first sections we put together, that green was very easy to find in this mostly white and blue image.

You all know how much I love to assemble words – can you believe I let my sister-in-law put this whole section together by herself? Me neither! I did though, cause I’m a nice old lady. 👵

I’m not sure why this nun was taking a baby out for a stroll, but I found it interesting enough to make sure there was a close-up picture of it.

We had a great time putting this puzzle together, even though it was more difficult that it looks. Sometimes the ones that challenge you are the most fun!

Dogs

Dogs – Cavallini & Co. – 1000 pieces

Isn’t this a great image for a dog and puzzle lover like myself? I absolutely adored it and had a great time putting it together. My apologies for the glare on the picture, the shiny/slick backing made it so that I couldn’t stand my board up for a good pic of the completed puzzle – it kept trying to slide off!

This was a new company for me. All of their puzzles that I’ve seen are in tubular containers and a little more on the pricey side. The quality is good/very good; good thickness, excellent fit, good reproduction and variety of shapes. They have a nice hand feel on the front of the puzzle, but use that slick/sharp coating on the back – I am not a fan of this type of backing.

Again, my apologies for the pictures. They’re at an angle so you could see the image without glare, it isn’t optimal but it was the best I could do.

Of course if there’s a Boston Terrier I’m gonna take a close up. Actually there are two sections with Bostons in this image, this was my favorite of the two.

I mean, how cute is this? A choir of adorable dogs giving a performance – love it. 💚

Cavallini & Co. – from what I’ve seen – make good quality puzzles. I’ve only done this one so I can only speak for this puzzle specifically until I’ve done at least one more. They’re a bit on the pricey side from what I’ve seen, so unless one of their images grabs me and I HAVE to get it, I’m not sure I’ll be getting another one any time soon. Not because there’s anything wrong with them, I’m just watching my puzzle spending at the moment.
