As the Sun Sets by Howard Robinson – Sunsout – 300 pieces
The posse and I put this together at a family dinner while waiting for the food to be ready. It’s adorably cute, but wasn’t as fun to assemble as we’d hoped; though I’m not sure why that was. Sometimes the interesting, cute, or pretty image isn’t the most entertaining to actually put together. Or maybe we were all just hungry. 😉
Mousing Around by Tim Rogerson – Mega Puzzles – 300 pieces
My very last puzzle of 2018 was this Mickey Mouse puzzle that was great fun even though there were basically only 4 colors to work with. It’s such an interesting look for Mr. Mouse, and it made for excellent puzzling. 🙂
*I’m not feeling very chatty this morning, perhaps it’s my PADS diagnosis*
Jackson Browne – Late for the Sky – RedisCover – 300 pieces
I was very excited to try this new company that makes jigsaw puzzles of album covers – front and back. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed in the quality and fit, and the entire assembly wasn’t very entertaining.
Surprisingly it had nothing to do with all the black and darkness, it was the poor quality of the pieces – both their fit and the torn and peeling image. The paper used on the front wasn’t heavy or sturdy enough, and at many of the “corners” where pieces meet the paper was torn. Extremely annoying and frustrating!
It doesn’t matter if the image you’re working on is dark or light, busily patterned or all one color; torn and peeling paper ruins the puzzle in my book.
The quality of either the paper or the finish on the back cover was better, and there were only a few corners where it was torn. It’s sort of a boring and very dark image, but I was very excited to work on it anyway. I enjoy trying out new brands; testing the quality, seeing if the image and colors match up to the box, etc. Unfortunately I was underwhelmed with this one. I usually don’t like to make a quality determination for certain until I’ve worked more than one puzzle, but I’m hesitant to even give this brand another try.
Working on this puzzle had me thinking of some amazing album covers from my youth that would be make great puzzle images. This is the very first one that came to mind, I loved this whole album!
I would be “Stone in Love” if I had this as a puzzle, and would welcome it with “Open Arms”. 😎 Don’t Stop Believing!
What album cover would you like to see on a puzzle?
This was a fun but challenging puzzle, and it makes me smile every time I look at it. To me, it looks as if the The Dark Helmet is in the process of dabbing….
–“I just blew up Alderaan!” *dab*
–“Obi Wan is now a jumble of Jedi dust!” *dab*
I honestly didn’t see it until the puzzle was complete and sitting on my whiteboard waiting to be photographed; then all of a sudden it clicked. Perhaps it’s all in my mind and I’m the only one who sees it, but I don’t care – it makes me giggle. Once it suggested itself to me, that’s all I can see. I know it’s meant to look menacing and if he’s on the attack, but what I see is a self-satisfied bully dabbing to celebrate his dastardly deeds.
This was the most difficult puzzle so far from the Sweet & Salty multipack. It took me at least 10 times longer than a 300 piece normally does. Wow. And I have to say it looks amazingly real – if it were also a scented puzzle I wouldn’t be able to keep my son away from it!
Again, I’m naming these myself as they aren’t named on the box or in the foldout poster enclosed. I started the first few with just plain, boring, descriptive names like Donut and Macaroons. Yawn. Then I decided to punch it up a bit with What, No Chocolate?! and today’s Oh My, What a Pie! I’m hoping to keep finding more fun and interesting names, and perhaps I’ll come up with some enigmatic, bizarre sounding name that has absolutely nothing to do with the picture. 😁
Ceaco puzzleshave a great selection of images to choose from, although sometimes I find the quality to be lacking. The quality of these puzzles has been better than I expected, especially from a multipack. The fit is excellent, the images are beautifully reproduced, and the pieces are a good thickness. Sometimes the chipboard is fanning on the backs of the pieces, and there are some that aren’t cut all the way through; overall though, the quality is good. This image was quite difficult, and had me working it completely differently than I normally would. I started off by separating all the pieces by shape, which is something I usually only do near the end of the puzzle or when there are large areas of one color. It doesn’t look as though it would be so challenging, but it really was! So much so that it overwhelmed me and I set it aside for several days and only worked on it a few pieces at a time.
As usual though, the closer you get to the end, the more you get excited to finish and see the entire puzzle completed. It’s not an easy one, but I was so proud when it was done! If you enjoy a challenge, consider the Sweet & Salty multipack by Ceaco, I’m enjoying it very much! 4 down, 4 to go. 👍
