Mystery Box – Day 45

Mystery Puzzle 17

Mom and I got this smaller building put together, or perhaps it’s a separate wing of the larger building – we’re not sure. But it’s moving along much more quickly now! Unfortunately, we’re positive that the missing symmetrical piece you see here was not in the box; but hubby and I are brainstorming on possible ways to make new pieces for however many are missing.

We also completely filled in the top of the municipal building, and added the “el” (elevated train) to the right side of the puzzle. So much progress! My daughter even found a piece and added it in. 🙂

I can’t describe how exciting it is for us when we find a large connection, we’re having so much fun with this! None of the family is as delighted as we are about it, but we don’t care – we have each other, and our puzzle bliss isn’t dependent on anyone else understanding it. (Although most of my readers get it, don’t you?)

What I’m Puzzling…

IMG_5821

I’m starting this puzzle today; it has bright colors, with a simple but adorable image. It’s a 500 piece TCG puzzle called Doggie Heaven – and regular readers know how much I love the puppies. Hopefully it’ll be as fun as it looks. 🐶

I’m still working on the 2000 piece puzzle, but it’s going very slowly. I can only work on the assembly while sitting on the floor, and unfortunately I’ve strained the muscles in my neck and working on the floor isn’t possible at the moment. I’m not giving up on it though, and even though it may be a week or two until I’m able to really get back into it, I am absolutely planning on finishing it!

My third puzzle in progress is the Mystery Box puzzle, and mom and I made more significant progress yesterday; attaching several large chunks to piece together the roof, balcony, and top part of a smaller building. It’s very exciting every time we get a large section together!

That’s what I’m doing these days – 3 puzzles in progress. I’m thinking I might need a 12 step program for puzzle addiction, but I’d probably just try to rearrange the steps into the “proper” order so they’d fit together in a more pleasing manner. 😉

Mystery Box – Day 40

Mystery Puzzle 16

Check out the fantastic progress mom and I made yesterday! The last time we worked on it we got the top part of the building started (from the long windows up); when we began yesterday one of us said “it won’t be long until we can start adding all these window sections”. About 30 seconds later, one of us saw a connection and we were so excited!

Mystery Puzzle 14

You can see in the picture from my previous Mystery Box post all the window sections we had partially assembled on the right side. We had the majority of it in little bits and just had to find out how they all fit together. There were several pieces still to go, but once the big chunks were in it all went relatively quickly.

We had a great time! It’s starting to look like an actual image now, and it’s getting pretty exciting!

It’s hard for me to go into the puzzle room and not sit down to work on it. I try not to work on it when mom’s not here, since the purpose of the gift was for us to spend time together. I texted her last week and told her I “accidentally” worked on the puzzle. ☺ I took my husband in there to show him the progress we’d made that day and suddenly saw where one of the large chunks fit in – I couldn’t NOT put it in!

It’s been 40 days since we started, and we are no less delighted by it than we were on day one! 💝

Thrift Store Fun!

Thrift Store Fun

So I went a little insane with power the other day; the thrift store we went to while mom and I were running errands had SOOOO many puzzles and I had extra money in my wallet – the combination was a bit much for me to handle!

I bought quite a few kids puzzles, mostly in multipacks, but the majority of the puzzles were 500 pieces or larger and I bought a lot of them. I couldn’t seem to stop myself from throwing puzzles into the cart. 🛒

There were 2 puzzles that didn’t feel right when we picked them up, so we opened them to be sure there were actually puzzles in there. To our wonderful surprise, some fantastic person had put two puzzles into each box – and the extra puzzles even had a small picture of the image included in the bag. Bonus!!

I think I’m set for a while, and won’t likely buy more anytime soon. Peaceful piecing ahead!

2000 Piece Update

2000 Update

This one is going quite slowly, but it’s a combination of things that’s making it take so very long. It has nothing to do with the quality or the amount of fun I’m having with the assembly; it’s mostly about how I’ve been feeling and the location of the board I’m working on.

Since it’s 2000 pieces it has to be done on a larger board, and my 3 x 4 foot puzzle board is currently occupied with the Mystery Puzzle. I borrowed mom’s board of the same size but it’s on the floor in my bedroom and that’s really the only place I can work on it. It’s not easy for me to get down on the floor to work on it (and getting up is no picnic either), so the time I can spend on this puzzle is limited at best.

If someone’s around to help, I could lift it onto my bed and work on it there; but even then I have to work sitting up with no support for my back and hips and the amount of time I can do that is pretty restrictive.

I’m 9 days into this assembly, still dealing with a cold/virus that doesn’t seem to want to go away, and a place to puzzle that isn’t very conducive to quick or efficient progress. Oh well. I make it a point to place a few pieces every day – no matter what. So although it may take me quite a while to finish it, I will definitely be completing it at some point in time. 🙂

I’ve gotten all the words together, and almost all the lines between the scenes done, so now it’s up to sorting and assembling each section. I love the look of it, the fantastic Ravensburger quality, and in general am having a great time! ❤
