Zojoji Temple in Shiba, 1925 by Hasui Kawase – Wentworth – 40 pieces

I enjoyed this puzzle very much, even though it went together quite quickly. My lack of puzzling in December and January mean that I don’t have any puzzles left in the queue and I was looking for some small, wintery-looking puzzles to get my completed puzzle count back up to where it should be.

As usual, it was great Wentworth quality. And for me there’s something so intriguing and lovely about Asian artwork, it’s just beautiful to look at as well as to assemble.

Aren’t these fantastic whimsies? I love the Geisha!

Clown Fish – Wentworth (Mini Mindful) – 40 pieces

This Mini Mindful puzzle from Wentworth certainly lived up to it’s name! The collection is designed to “calm your mind, piece by piece” with mostly difficult shapes and images that require concentration. You had to pay extremely close attention and I ended up finding that the rest of the world almost fades away as you’re looking for the next piece or color to fit into the picture.

Wentworth’s mini puzzles were already favorites of mine, but the Mini Mindful collection is even better in my opinion. Sometimes with the regular 40 piece minis it goes together a little too quickly, but the Mini Mindful puzzles take more brain power and it normally isn’t a quick assembly – love that!

The triangular pieces made this already challenging image even more so – it probably took me around 25-30 minutes to put this one together. Exactly what I needed that day. 🔺💖

Wonderland

Wonderland by Bill Bell – Wentworth – 140 pieces

This artwork is so crammed full of characters and things to see that even at only 140 pieces it was a bit of a challenge! Alice in Wonderland seems to be quite a common theme for puzzles, I’ve probably done eight or nine Wonderland themed puzzles, they make for good fun if you ask me.

I’m not sure what possessed me to get this puzzle, it really isn’t an image I would normally go for – there’s just too much going on. Perhaps it was the colors, or the piece count, I’m not certain. Whatever it was, I’m glad I didn’t just go with the usual style of artwork that usually finds it’s way into my cart because even with the added difficulty it really was very enjoyable.

It wasn’t until I was almost finished with the assembly that I realized the caterpillar was even in the image! He sure does look exhausted, doesn’t he?

The Queen of Hearts certainly looks like a mean one, doesn’t she? When I was looking at the pieces I was sure those teeth were going to be on the Cheshire Cat. Wrong!

Such great whimsies; I didn’t read the books, so I’m not sure if there was an owl in the story, but they still are great whimsies for this image.

Even though it was difficult it was still lots of fun to put this little one together, and so much to see!

Wonderland In Progress…

Wonderland by Bill Bell – Wentworth – 140 pieces

This little Wentworth puzzle has been slow going so far, I’ve put away the box so this is being put together without an image for reference. Still, it’s bright and colorful and I’m hoping it’ll be great fun.

The image on the box seems quite small, and it’s a bit difficult to see the detail; so I’m looking forward to seeing the artwork in more detail on the pieces themselves. There have only been a few pieces put together here and there, when I see a piece that goes with another – pretty much like all jigsaw puzzling now that I think about. But there’s so much going on that it isn’t coming together as quickly as it normally does.

Still having a good time with it though, and that’s the part that counts!

I’m having a rough time lately, and don’t seem to be as interested in puzzling as I usually am. Once I get a puzzle going things are ok, but it’s getting one started that’s the problem; I’d rather lay in bed and watch Netflix to be honest. But that isn’t good for me at all. Sigh.

Tiered Treats

Tiered Treats by Aimee Stewart – Wentworth – 210 pieces

A shaped wooden puzzle with an image by Aimee Stewart – yes please! This was much more difficult than I thought it would be, but that didn’t matter one bit because I enjoyed this puzzle from the first piece to the last. 💚🧩

Interestingly this puzzle was easiest at the top with the brightly colored macarons; the cupcakes, fruit and mille feuille in the middle tier were a little bit more challenging, but the bottom tier with the sandwiches was not easy at all. Still, it was fun to work from the top down – that isn’t something I usually do.

*Mille feuille are the beautiful layered treats on the right side of the middle layer – it means “thousand sheets” and is made from puff pastry and usually filled with a vanilla pastry cream and topped with vanilla and chocolate icing. I’ve never had one, but I’ve watched enough of The Great British Baking Show to know what they are. They sound amazing!

Aren’t these fabulous tea time whimsies? Bread, sandwiches, cakes, cookies, teapots, fruit – I love them!

This puzzle had excellent quality and stunning image reproduction, I absolutely adored this assembly. There’s another shaped Aimee Stewart from Wentworth on the to-do shelf, and I’m very much looking forward to it. 😍
