Proud Lion In Progress

Proud Lion IP
Proud Lion by Martin Nasim – 300 pieces

Usually for a 300 piece puzzle it gets finished the day that I start it, but this one has been on my board for 2 days now. It’s been a horrible week, but I’ve made it a point to get myself into the puzzle room at least once a day and do SOMETHING with a puzzle; whether it’s sorting pieces or putting a few of them together, as long as I got a little bit accomplished it helped.

I started with the more difficult side, the brush strokes make it a bit more of a challenge – but there’s fun in the harder ones, and every piece placed is a little victory. And once that side is finished the bright colors and interesting patterns on the opposite side should make for much quicker assembly.

So this beauty is still in progress, but hopefully I’ll be able to stay awake during the day and get it finished. You can’t really tell from the picture, but it’s a beautiful image, it’ll be gorgeous when it’s done. 🙂

Review: Circles Strokes

Circles Strokes
Circles Strokes by Kirsten Hinte – Milton Bradley – 750 pieces

I do so love blocks of color. 💖 This puzzle was a lovely respite from holiday images (it was finished on December 22), and even though it was a bit difficult I enjoyed the unique image and the gold foil accents. It’s such different and interesting artwork, and you know how much I love things that aren’t the norm.

As I do many times, after purchasing this puzzle I opened the box to look at the pieces; then, as I do, put it away because it looked like it would be pretty difficult. Several times the box came out when it was time to choose the next puzzle, and it went back in the pile every time. Luckily, this time I jumped at the chance to do a puzzle without snow or Santa, and started sorting before giving myself a chance to question how challenging it would be.

This is a special Gold edition Milton Bradley puzzle, and I found the quality to be quite good. Nice, thick chipboard with a good fit, wonderful colors, and beautiful gold foil accents. I wish pictures could capture the gold foil, it’s really quite beautiful.

Some of the colors were easy to pick out, and once I started getting things assembled the pieces became more familiar and it was easier to notice the subtle differences in color. It’s like most images, the more you do the more you become familiar with it; the more familiar the pieces become, the easier it is to see what you’re looking for. It provided a good challenge though, and kept me intensely focused only on what piece was next and which color goes where.

If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary and this image is one that strikes your fancy, I can definitely recommend this puzzle. I found it to be very good quality, with an image that made for a challenging and engrossing assembly. 👍

Tropical Paradise 14

Tropical Paradise
Tropical Paradise 14 by Hello Angel – Milton Bradley – 300 pieces

Got up early in the morning because I couldn’t sleep, and finished this puzzle before hubby left for work. Pretty good!

I’m loving these wonderful little 300 piece round puzzles with such interesting images. They’re a lovely, quick puzzle when I’m not feeling well enough to start a larger one, and the colors and patterns make for such an engrossing assembly.

Perhaps it’s a good thing that so many people don’t assemble anything smaller than 1000 piece puzzles, that leaves more wonderful little gems like these for me to find and put together! 🙂

Winged Things 17 – Milton Bradley – 300 pieces

This is a gorgeous image that was a little challenging too – it needed just the right amount of brain power. It’s a great little puzzle that I think looks amazing. The name of the puzzle makes me wonder what the other 16 Winged Things look like, and I also wonder if they were made into puzzles.

Normally there isn’t much discussion about the boxes puzzles come in, but this one was was something worth talking about. The box was so enormously difficult to open that I had to have one of my sons help me. It’s just a round-ish box with one flat side (easier to put on the shelves I’m assuming). Seriously, it was so difficult to open it took two grown people working together, and we had to use a butter knife to pry the pieces apart. We must have looked like a couple of world class mindless idiots – we couldn’t open a cardboard box! (Thank goodness there is no video evidence of this to add to my humiliation)

Once we finally got the box open I had a fabulous time putting this together. The piece shapes were interesting, and the colorful image made for such entertaining puzzling. This puzzle had a somewhat loose fit but it wasn’t too bad, and the image reproduction was absolutely beautiful.

The center was very unusual; most circular puzzles have 3 pieces that form a small circle, but this one had eight pizza shaped pieces – very interesting – and it added to the difficulty as well.

It isn’t often that you see circular 300 piece puzzles, but I was very happy to find this at the store. I only bought two of them, but there were more; I might have to go back and get another one. 😉

Miniature Succulents

Mini Succulents
Miniature Succulents – Milton Bradley – 300 pieces

Some people say 300 piece puzzles aren’t worth their time – too few pieces and they just aren’t challenging enough. To those people I say, try this little succulent out, it’ll give you a run for your money!

Many times a 300 piece puzzle can be assembled in one sitting, but this one took me quite a bit longer. I enjoyed the challenge of it though, and had a great sense of accomplishment when that last piece finally went in. If I could have given myself a pat on the back I would have. Well done, Stacey!

This puzzle was 300 pieces of completely absorbing entertainment. I couldn’t help but get sucked in every time I sat down in front of it; it doesn’t look terribly difficult, I should be able to get it done in no time. Then you’re looking for the right piece – why can’t I see it, where does this fit in? Why does every succulent look like all the other succulents? What kind of word is succulents anyway?! Who shot JR?

*(Sometimes my train of thought goes off the rails, my apologies. Everyone knows that Kristin shot JR.)

This was a great little entertaining puzzle! 🙂
