Beer Caps

Beer Caps by Charlie Girard – White Mountain – 550 pieces

Mom and I finished this in an afternoon while visiting. She didn’t think she was going to like it, but once we got going she was enjoying it. After a while we were doing the same stuff we always do when we’re working on a puzzle together and cracking each other up. Fun puzzle (although neither of us are beer drinkers) – and perfect for St. Patrick’s Day! 🙂

This was the first 550 piece White Mountain puzzle I’ve done, and I was surprised that the pieces were random cut instead of grid cut. I don’t have anything to compare it to so I’m not sure if that is usual for the smaller piece count puzzles or not. It made the puzzle a little more of a challenge, but it was still very entertaining.

My only problem with this puzzle was that the image on the box wasn’t correct. It was just a small deviation, but one that confused us at first. The second beer cap in the bottom row is red in the actual puzzle, but black on the box. It was baffling for a minute before we figured out what was wrong.

Otherwise the quality of the puzzle was quite good, I’ve never had a problem with a White Mountain product. This one was no exception, and was great fun – White Mountain has the best collage puzzles!

It’s upside down, but that was how I was working on it today, so that’s how it was photographed. I tried flipping the picture, but the camera was at an angle and it looks really weird right side up. I’ve said it before, Ansel Adams I am not!

Filled in all the dark blue today, so the top of the puzzle is done. There’s still plenty left to do – including finding the 4 pieces of the filmstrip that I didn’t sort properly. That is so frustrating! I try to be careful when I’m sorting and make sure everything is where it should be, but not once have I gotten them all the first time. You would think the images in the filmstrip would be easy to sort, and for the most part they are; but there are always a few pieces that don’t look like filmstrip at all and end up sorted with a whole other section. I remember when I was working on Cinderella there were 2 pieces of the coach that didn’t get put in until almost the very end because they were sorted into the twinklies. Frustrating!

I did get the twinklies sorted by shape today, so tomorrow I will begin working on those. It’s probably the least fun part of this puzzle to do, but in the end it looks awesome and you feel like you’ve accomplished something.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! Please party and puzzle responsibly 😉

I know it doesn’t look like it, but that little bit right there is over 450 pieces assembled! I got a pretty good start today because the filmstrip is so fun that it just flies by and before you know it you’ve gotten the whole thing done 🙂

After putting the filmstrip together and seeing all the scenes, I want to watch the movie again. It’s been so long since I’ve seen a lot of these movies I’ve forgotten how good they really were. Thumper was adorable and funny, Flower was shy and sweet (and my favorite), Bambi was so cute and innocent – such a great movie!

There are a few flowers that aren’t white and I sorted those out and got those put together too. If the white ones are as much fun as the colored ones they’re going to be fun to assemble. Well, to be honest I think the whole puzzle is going to be fun!

I’m also a little upset with myself for putting together 452 pieces today – that’s not the way to make this final section last! But on the other hand I’m doing this because it’s a fun challenge and I’m having fun. Sigh. So I guess I’m just going to do what makes me happy and some days that may mean stopping early and working on another puzzle. Some days I may just want to keep going and going cause I’m on a roll. I’ll have to do my best no matter which mindset I’m in that day. 😎

Finally!

It took waaay too long, but I’ve finally gotten Beauty and the Beast off the board and Bambi is sorted. I’ll be able to start assembly tomorrow and I’m really looking forward to getting back to work on the puzzle and posting updates every day. Stay tuned!

Seavilians – Ceaco – 100 pieces

Another thrift store puzzle put together to be sure all the pieces are there before giving it to a child. This one wasn’t bad!

You can see from the picture that the pieces don’t lie completely flat and they are a bit thin, but otherwise this a good kid’s puzzle. The image reproduction is quite good and it was fun to assemble. The top blue part took some actual concentration, but it isn’t too difficult to for young child in my opinion. This one is definitely going to my “grandson”, he’s a puzzle geek just like me! 🙂
