Words of Wisdom by Steve Cameron – White Mountain – 1000 pieces

This puzzle was a little too easy for my taste – the hardest part was laying out pieces. It was still fun though, and it was probably the perfect puzzle for me to attempt while dealing with hubby recovering from his very first surgery. My big tough Marine isn’t the easiest to deal with when he doesn’t feel well (if you know what I mean).

As far as White Mountain puzzles go this one was about the norm – quality was good/fair. The fit was slightly loose, which I have been noticing more often from this brand than I used to. It used to be that many of their puzzles had a fit so tight that I felt as if I were working on an exercise program for my arms and fingers; I haven’t run into that issue at all since the pandemic began.

Just an observation.

As far as the image goes, a lot of these words of wisdom are your average clichés, but some of them I’d never heard or read before. Regardless, it was entertaining and I enjoyed myself even if it was a little too quick to go together. (I think if it had been a little more challenging I would have been able to spend extra time and enjoy it even more). But honestly, finding the perfect puzzle image that is just the right amount of fun/difficulty is pretty rare; so I don’t hold it against anyone that this was a little too easy for me.

This was the first section I assembled; mostly because it’s bright color was extremely easy to pick out, and partly because that’s how I feel most days – like my brain is running Windows 95 and there are 17 tabs open. Yep. That about covers it.

This is a good reminder. Whatever style you like, take some time out to listen to music when you can; it’s helped me tremendously during the past couple of years and I highly recommend it.

As I’m typing this up I’m enjoying an eclectic mix of music from the 1940s to present. Most of it is from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, but I like many different genres and delight in putting it all on shuffle and having fun with whatever song pops up next. Could be Mama Cass, could be an 80s hair band, could be Elvis or The Beatles, could be some classic rock or my favorite a capella group – you just never know. 🎼

    Sometimes it just feels good to give my brain a rest and do an easy puzzle.
    50s, 60s and 80s music is my go-to puzzling choice (not a fan of the 70s) and I also love to read so I listen to literary podcasts too.

    1. I agree. That’s why I enjoy all the kids puzzles and small piece counts that I have here, it’s nice to not have to give the gray matter such a workout!

      I used to listen to books and podcasts while puzzling, but I find that with my pain meds it’s too difficult to concentrate on them. I can bop around to music, but keeping up with a book or a complicated conversation is anxiety inducing and overwhelming for me.

        I think I’d have a really hard time listening to a podcast (whatever the topic) while puzzling. Listening/Comprehensive takes brain power and so does assembling a jigsaw puzzle — it would be too much for me to keep up with at once. I usually just have music on in the background, or sometimes I’ll have QVC on in the background — although I never purchase.

        Deb, I love to read to. Even though we may have different tastes, what are some of the literary podcasts you like listening to? I actually don’t listen to any podcasts at all. It seems overwhelming to me, there’s just so many to choose from.

    I love assembling puzzles with lots of words in them but, and I can’t find the words to explain the reason, I don’t think I’d enjoy this one. Maybe just because WMP is not one of my preferred brands of puzzles. But also, and now maybe the words are coming, I guess it seems slightly cartoon-y to me. Although not applicable with this puzzle, WMP does have some terrific collage images but then, IMHO, they ruin take away from the lovely image by adding cartoon-y clipart on top of it.

    I’m not familar at all with Steve Cameron as a puzzle artist. It seems so many WMP are done by Charlie Girard. But I did go over the WMP site and look up Steve Cameron, he has several puzzles, they are not my cuppa… Maybe in the hands of a different artist they would look different. Ugh, I feel awful saying that but art is so subjective.

      My favorites are The Currently Reading Podcast, What Should I Read Next with Anne Bogel, Sarah’s Bookshelves Live and From the Front Porch put on by The Bookshelf book store in Thomasville, GA. From the Front Porch is usually a little lighter to listen to.
      I’m sure they’re available everywhere but I listen on Spotify.

        LOL, I don’t even know what Spotify is. Can any of these podcasts literally be downloaded (for free I hope) in mp3 format? Then I could just transfer the file to my phone and try listening to it while I walk or maybe while doing chores. (And yes I do have a smart phone but I don’t have wi-fi or an unlimited data plan or use apps so putting Spotify on my phone is not an option for me. I have no idea when I suddenly got so behind the times with all podcast stuff and other cool online things that I don’t know about.)

        I am familiar with Ann Bogel, I visit her Modern Mrs Darcy website from time to time, mainly for her interesting links from around the web that she shares on Fridays and to check her ebook deals — although she and I have very different reading tastes, I recently scooped up two ebooks from her deals page.

        I will definitely look up all those podcasts you mentioned later today, thank you for sharing!

      Beth, maybe if you Google the names of the podcasts you can find different ways to listen – ???
      If you go to The Bookshelf Thomasville GA website and find podcasts in the menu, I think you should be able to listen on your computer. Today’s episode is March New Release Rundown if that helps.
