I’m not sure why, but this puzzle’s been on my mind the last few days. It was finished almost 3 years ago, and was really a joy to assemble. I haven’t touched a jigsaw puzzle since Sunday morning, and I’ve been thinking about certain puzzles I’ve done and really liked – perhaps just trying to get my groove back.
This puzzle stands out for me, I was almost afraid of it and put it off for quite a while because it was supposed to be very challenging. I found it to be highly entertaining to assemble and not nearly as hard as it was supposed to be. The fit was so tight that I could pick it up and stand it on it’s bottom edge!
I still haven’t started a new puzzle yet, but looking at this one makes me want to find one with lots of words like this pencil collage. Or perhaps I’ll get a few of the educational kids puzzles done, they’ve got a bit of wording and at only 24 pieces it’s not too much of a commitment. 🙂

Galison has a 1000 piece pencil puzzle.

It looks so cool but the only thing that I don’t like is that half of the puzzle’s pencils are upside down. I suppose this was done so the erasers could be lined up or so someone could sit at the opposite side of the table.
If the writing was all right side up I’d totally get this puzzle as I really like puzzle’s with lots and lots of text.
What do you think?

I like the look of it as well, but you’re right, it is odd that half of the pencils are upside down, although I don’t think it would make it too much more difficult.
My problem is that almost all Galison puzzles have the same shaped pieces, there’s no variety at all. With a collage like this one it probably wouldn’t be too terrible, but I do wish they had more piece shapes in their puzzles.
I say, if you like the look of it you should go for it!

I’m not in love with how it looks due to half of the pencil text being upside down. I don’t mind that Galison puzzles don’t have much variety — probably because I choose puzzles that don’t have wide areas of blue sky, green grass, green trees, etc….. the lack of piece variety for image sections like that would make assembly a frustrating nightmare (at least for me)

Wow! I like the black ones, but I could never pay that much for a pair of shoes. I’m barely on my feet these days anyway. Are you getting a pair?

We (passerbys) worked the Galison at the library. The pencils right side and upside down are quite noticeable. Not sure it made it more difficult. I still liked the image and it is really decent quality.
